SMALL ADORATION

by Karen Cisneros

Looking at the white, desolate crib made my stomach turn in knots. Will my life change? Will he be my parents’ favorite? The day had finally arrived; I was going to see my tiny, little brother. Having to wait nine long months to see the new addition to our family was an eternity. Waiting by the living room window, looking outside, made me uneasy. Is my mom OK? I walked up and down the never-ending, narrow hallway.

Trying to keep myself busy to make me get my mind off the whole thing, I searched for some delicious cherry jolly ranchers. But instead, I started feeling even more anxious. I was desperate. The sound of a car honking the horn made me dash back to the window to see if I possibly would see a sign of them coming. Come on! Please, get here already! After one minute, I caught sight of the shiny gray car turning towards the house.

Blood started flowing through my entire body. Gazing at my mom, waiting for her to get out of the car without her big belly made me want to run out and hug her. She was now a mother of two kids! Then, I saw my dad trying to pull something out of the backseat. It was my little brother’s black and blue baby car seat. The one I had picked out especially for him. I want to see him already!

The moment had finally arrived; the nine long months of waiting finally paid off. It was now time to see my little brother. I darted towards the enormous brown wooden door and asked to see my baby brother right away. Seeing his little hand next to mine made me adore him in every single way. He is going to be the best little brother! I am going to take care of him in every way! He was now my biggest responsibility and also the cutest baby to have ever been born. Feeling proud as a new mother, excited as a child getting a present for a birthday, I was proud to be a big sister!
